Excuse me while I change this Regime...

ANOTHER BLOODY WAR

from the country that brought you

Mutual Assured Destruction

(M.A.D.)

NEW PRE-EMPTIVE ATTACK!!!

Yes, it's now OK to INVADE any country you don't like...

Once Upon a Time, if you invaded another country, that made you a BADDIE.

But NOW you can invade another country & still be the GOODIE (if your name is America or Israel)...

Flak against Iraq Attack:

Look, it's not about UN Resolutions, it's not about WMDs, it's not even about 'Regime Change' really: it's the OIL, stupid.

gulfsmlogo.gif (1797 bytes)

The USA wants/needs to control the oil fields, so it can continue to pollute the planet, in mad pursuit of business as usual, the illusion of 'economic growth' &, above all, profit for the few at the expense of the poor (ie the vast majority.) We should know our place as good little consumers. What we are being sold is a lifestyle that in short order & for good measure renders the biosphere toxic.

Well, that's Democracy (see below for more details.) And, to cap it all, this is from a president who rigged his election result. The effrontery of the man! HAIL TO THE THIEF, indeed. How about 'Regime Change' in Washington?

No great danger of that. Don't worry, they have ways of distracting you. There's nothing like a good war to take our minds off what really matters in our lives. We can hardly wait to watch those smart-arse bombs exploding in billion-pixel digital glory & surroundsound fidelity on the box in the corner of our living rooms. Action movies are popular. Blood & thunder, gore & guts, popcorn porn, fast-food for intellectual inanition, a feast for the empathy-deficient. Give it us jumpcut elliptical staccato cos proper punctuation is for wimps  & well-constructed sentences would be dangerously rational, a challenge too far for short attention spans...

Yes, what we are about to witness is the latest sequel in the OIL war series. (So, rather than burn hydrocarbons in your car, try cycling towards peace. Or even walking. Don't, however, do the 'crawfish'!)

Assault on Language

SADDAM BUSH, belligerent bully, isbush1.gif (14577 bytes) 'stiffing' (his word) the world - this arrogant Emperor of the morally-vicious sure boasts a brutally elegant turn of phrase! (Unsupported by autocue & the well-crafted verbal felicity lent him by a team of  topnotch speechwriters, he is barely articulate. At such times, he appears like a bemused child with learning difficulties, syntax & diction mirroring internal mental confusion: one pictures a vista of vast wide-open Texan prairie under big skies within a cavernous cranium thru which dust & tumbleweed forever blow...) Unfortunately, his every utterance is trumpeted forth as the dominant rhetoric, in the context of American ascendence in media & culture, backed by economic & military might (which is, of course, the predictable bottom line in these transactions), so insidiously propaganda becomes the 'truth' & the 'official version'/ 'authorised reality' prevails...

VOTE PEACE

we don't need Bush

we don't need Blair

give them the push

that bloody pair

they need us more

than we need them

if they go to war

it's their requiem

Horrified/disgusted by the prospect of Britain joining Bush's Imperialistic War for Oil?

As we haven't been given a democratic vote on the matter, how do we make our voices heard?

Why not try CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE?

Cast your whole vote, not a strip of paper merely, but your whole influence. A minority is powerless while it conforms to the majority; it is not even a minority then; but it is irresistible when it clogs by its whole weight. If the alternative is to keep all just men in prison, or give up war and slavery, the State will not hesitate which to choose. If a thousand men were not to pay their tax-bills this year, that would not be a violent and bloody measure, as it would be to pay them, and enable the State to commit violence and shed innocent blood. This is, in fact, the definition of a peaceable revolution, if any such is possible.

(Henry David Thoreau: Civil Disobedience, 1849)

If you decide to  fuck fax your MP/ senator/ elected dictator etc, consider what Chomsky has to say about Democracy:

What remains of democracy is to be construed as the right to choose among commodities. Business leaders have long explained the need to impose on the population a "philosophy of futility" and "lack of purpose in life," to "concentrate human attention on the more superficial things that comprise much of fashionable consumption." Deluged by such propaganda from infancy, people may then accept their meaningless and subordinate lives and forget ridiculous ideas about managing their own affairs. They may abandon their fate to the wizards, and in the political realm, to the self-described "intelligent minorities" who serve and administer power.

And remember:

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."

"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."
